During the month of April, Barcelona lives and breathes tennis. The prestigious Open Banc Sabadell – Conde de Godó Trophy tournament brings together the best players and their rackets in its 72nd edition. The event, which has been held at the Real Club de Tenis de Barcelona since 1953, also involves the deployment of the Aces Solidarios initiative. A project by Banco Sabadell through which the entity donates money for each ace ---or direct service point--- that players score during the tournament.

Since its launch in 2008, the entity has donated more than 430,000 euros that have benefited 57 social organizations with Aces Solidarios. During his speech, the CEO of Banco Sabadell, César González-Bueno, highlighted that, for the entity, "it is very important, beyond accompanying families and companies in their projects, to collaborate with solidarity initiatives that support citizens in the territories where the bank is present." For the entity, this Aces Solidarios initiative is an opportunity to link its corporate values with sports values, especially with a sport like tennis, which champions effort, the desire for self-improvement, and respect.
Each year, Sabadell chooses several beneficiary entities. The collection corresponding to this seventeenth edition, which amounts to 32,000 euros, will be allocated to Alicante Gastronómica Solidaria, Fundación Horta Sud, Fundación Felisa, and Fundación Colisée, organizations in the Valencian Community that have helped the victims of the DANA. In an event held this Friday, representatives of the four entities detailed the actions carried out by their organizations and agreed on highlighting the importance and support that this donation represents for their social work.
The average number of solidarity aces recorded in each edition of the Open is 470. The maximum figure was registered in 2008, with 634, and the minimum, in 2011, with 313. On the clay court, prominent players help, through their points, to raise money for these entities. Casper Ruud ---winner of the previous edition of the Barcelona tournament---, Stéfanos Tsitsipàs, or Carlos Alcaraz are some of the favorites to win this year's crown, as well as to score points for Sabadell's aces solidarios initiative.
Supporting the victims of the DANA
With the havoc caused by DANA still present in the Valencian Community, Banco Sabadell has decided to allocate the 32,000 euros raised in this edition of Aces Solidarios to those entities that helped, and still contribute now, to the victims of the floods. "Due to our close ties with the Valencian Community, we have experienced the disaster caused by DANA very closely and we hope that this small collaboration we are making today will help the organizations that receive it to continue carrying out their work with the same passion and energy as before," said González-Bueno.
Alicante Gastronómica Solidaria is a project directed by the Alicante Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with institutions such as the Alicante Provincial Council, Turisme Generalitat Valenciana, business tourism associations, as well as private companies from Alicante and Social Welfare departments of different City Councils, such as those of Alicante, Alfaz del Pi, Relleu, Altea, Sella or Finestrat. During the floods, they distributed a total of 140,000 hot meals among those affected in the province of Valencia during the first ten days, thanks to 150 volunteer deliveries from the kitchens of Alicante Gastronómica Solidaria to 15 affected municipalities in coordination with the Generalitat Valenciana.
González-Bueno: "We hope that this small collaboration we are making today will help the organizations that receive it to continue carrying out their work with the same passion and energy as before"The Horta Sud Foundation is a community organization dedicated to strengthening the associative movement in the l'Horta Sud region, promoting active citizen participation and social cohesion. During the DANA, it distributed more than 457,000 euros in aid to 105 associations, benefiting more than 21,000 people. This aid has been essential to cover material damages and support the recovery of infrastructures, equipment, and furniture.
The Felisa Foundation, based in Paterna, is an organization dedicated to generating a positive impact in three key areas: child welfare, poverty alleviation, and environmental conservation and protection. During the floods, they implemented several specific actions, creating working groups in key areas such as logistics, mobility, economic recovery, and housing.
Finally, the Colisée Foundation, based in Valencia, promotes healthy and active aging for people at all stages of their lives, improving the well-being and inclusion of groups at risk of social exclusion. During the DANA, it launched a fundraising campaign to help affected elderly people, through collections via Bizum, bank transfers, and online donations, as well as offering psychological support to those who needed it.
