The pandemic has accelerated the growth of e-commerce and Amazon's logistical needs continue to grow. The American company will open two new logistics centers in Catalonia, one in Mollet del Vallès and the other in Vilamalla, in the Alt Empordà, as reported by TV3. These facilities will join the eight currently existing in the community and which make up one of Amazon's most important logistics networks in Europe.
The Mollet logistics center will be built on the land where the Bacardi factory once stood and will be the ninth located in Barcelona. Construction work is currently underway on these lands, where there has been no activity for three years. The plot has 70,000 square meters.
As for the Vilamalla facilities, next to Figueres, they will have an area of 85,000 square meters. This facility will also serve France and will be a strategic point for the company, as it will allow managing an enormous quantity of products.
Amazon announced last December the creation of another logistics center with an area of 21,000 square meters in the town of Montcada i Reixac, which is currently under construction. These new infrastructures are added to the already existing ones, such as the logistics center of El Prat de Llobregat, Martorelles or Castellbisbal.
