The US multinational Amazon has announced that it will open three new logistics warehouses in Barcelona, Mollet del Vallès and Montcada i Reixac, which will be operational next October. The launch of these new facilities, which it calls stations, is included in the strategic plan launched by the e-commerce company to further shorten delivery times.

The opening of the three centers will mean the creation of more than 270 permanent jobs, according to the group led by Jeff Bezos. 20 local delivery companies will also benefit, collaborating with Amazon to deliver orders. These independent companies are expected to hire, in turn, some 800 drivers. Logistics stations are the last step in the delivery chain. Packages are sent from large logistics platforms, such as the one in El Prat de Llobregat, to these smaller warehouses, where they are picked up by delivery drivers so that they can be delivered to customers residing in a specific area.

"We are delighted to continue investing in Catalonia with three new logistics stations that will provide efficient delivery for customers and create hundreds of job opportunities for talented professionals," says Paolo Patrone, director of Amazon Logistics in Spain.

The new delivery warehouse in Barcelona will be located in the Montsolís industrial estate, in the La Verneda neighborhood. It will have more than 10,700 square meters and will generate 60 permanent jobs. For its part, the Mollet del Vallès station will have 10,400 square meters, while the Montcada i Reixac station will be the largest of the three, with more than 13,490 square meters. Amazon also announced a few days ago the opening of a similar center in Tarragona.

In Catalonia, in addition, the US giant plans the opening of two large logistics centers in Vilamalla, near Figueres, and in Mollet del Vallès. These two trunk facilities will have more than 70,000 square meters each and will also create dozens of new jobs. In this way, the company reaffirms its intention to invest in the Catalan territory, which has already become one of Amazon's epicenters in southern Europe.

Specifically, Amazon now has in Catalonia a distribution center in Barberà del Vallès; three logistics centers in El Prat, Castellbisbal and Martorelles; a logistics center for PrimeNow in Barcelona; and three logistics stations in the Zona Franca of Barcelona, in Martorelles and in Rubí.
