Almirall completes eight decades of activity, and to commemorate the anniversary, it has announced the launch of an innovation center to "boost scientific collaboration" in R&D. Named The Hive, the initiative seeks to promote cooperation among innovative companies to accelerate the development of knowledge, as announced by the multinational's CEO, Carlos Gallardo.
In fact, the family business has invested 1,000 million euros in R&D over the last decade. It was precisely ten years ago that the company made the "strategic decision" to focus on the field of dermatology. Thus, it has become "the only company in the world dedicated to dermatology with its own R&D," Gallardo assured at an event for the 80th anniversary at the company's center in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, which was attended by the President of the Govern, Salvador Illa, among other authorities.
Under the umbrella of The Hive, there are currently three companies operating at the Sant Feliu plant, and the forecast is that more will be installed with the aim of generating a "unique environment to boost research." The Catalan pharmaceutical company has two other plants dedicated to manufacturing in Catalonia, located in Sant Andreu de la Barca and Sant Celoni.
The company, which has 2,000 employees and operates in more than a hundred countries, has produced more than 75 million units approved by different international regulators from these three centers in Catalonia.
"Catalonia needs more Almiralls," defended Illa, who highlighted the fact that the pharmaceutical company is a family business: "It is a story of success and prosperity." Illa, who had already visited the company's facilities when he was Minister of Health, attended the center along with the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Universities, Juan Cruz, who stressed that "the innovative solutions of the coming years depend on collaboration."
