Dr. Alberto Breda, head of the Oncological Urology unit and the Kidney Transplant surgical team at Fundació Puigvert in Barcelona, will replace Professor Alexander Mottrie at the helm of the Robotic Surgery section (ERUs) of the European Association of Urology (EAU), a position he will hold for the next eight years.
The ERUs is a prominent entity in the field of robotic urological surgery in Europe. Its objective is to achieve excellence in surgical education through regular meetings, master classes, and academic cooperation with leading opinion scientists in the specialty.
Alberto Breda believes his appointment is "a great opportunity to demonstrate that robotic surgery performed in Spain and the rest of Europe is a leader at an international level."
The doctor is a specialist in oncological urology, laparoscopic and robotic surgery for kidney and prostate pathologies. In 2010, he was the first surgeon in Spain to perform a living donor kidney extraction with the Da Vinci robot, expressly designed to execute complex surgeries. Five years later, he was the first to perform a complete robotic living donor kidney transplant in Europe alongside Frenchman Nicolas Doumerc.
Currently, Alberto Breda is the principal investigator of 11 clinical trials in the field of uroncology. He has also received numerous awards, such as the Arthur Smith Award, which was granted to him in 2016 by the Endourology Society. Throughout his career, he has written more than 190 articles in scientific journals.
