Albert Serra

The Banyoles filmmaker Albert Serra has been chosen to inaugurate the non-competitive section Made in Spain of the San Sebastián Film Festival. Serra will present his latest work, Seize moments de ma vie, a non-fiction feature film that will previously premiere at the Locarno International Film Festival and that approaches the figure of the renowned German actress and singer Ingrid Caven, muse of Rainer Werner Fassbinder.

Born in 1975 and with a degree in Hispanic Philology and Literary Theory, Serra has established himself as one of the most radical and awarded directors of the contemporary scene thanks to a contemplative and provocative style that shies away from traditional narrative conventions. His career includes major international milestones since his debut with Honor de cavalleria in 2006 and El cant dels ocells in 2008, passing through critical recognition with La mort de Lluís XIV in 2016, until reaching the global triumph of Pacifiction in 2022, winner of two César Awards and chosen best film of the year by the mythical magazine Cahiers du Cinéma.

Now, by being in charge of opening the international showcase of Made in Spain (sharing the bill with names of the stature of Pedro Almodóvar, Isabel Coixet or Aina Clotet), the Banyoles director reaffirms his position as an indispensable figure for understanding the projection of Catalan audiovisual creation in the world.
