Agile Content, specialized in offering video distribution and digital television solutions, has acquired Fon Technology, a company specialized in Wi-Fi solutions, for 5.2 million euros. The acquired company was founded in 2006 by Martín Varsavsky, an Argentine entrepreneur based in Madrid who has founded successful companies such as Jazztel or Eolia.
The agreement aims to enhance the in-home multimedia consumption experience, as well as consolidate Agile's position in Europe and expand its customer base, reaching up to 50 million households. Fon has a client portfolio made up of telecommunications operators such as Deutsche Telekom, SFR, Vodafone, OI, Cosmote, or Telstra. The operation will also allow it to strengthen its monetization, with the incorporation of the CEO of the acquired company, Alex Puregger, as head of this area.
The Barcelona-based company is dedicated to developing software applications for the production and distribution of all types of content and services. One of its most outstanding products is Agile TV, a pay-TV platform whose main clients include operators such as MásMóvil. The COVID pandemic has greatly strengthened the internet on-demand television market, and Agile's revenue has soared by 75% in the last year, reaching 9.25 million euros.
Currently, it is focused on becoming more than a traditional provider and transitioning to a technological partner for companies. The acquisition of Fon is a clear example of the direction the company is taking.
