Abacus announced this Tuesday the acquisition of Ro-Botica, an educational robotics company specialized in the creation, distribution, and implementation of technological solutions in robotics and programming for educational use. It is a company known in the school environment thanks to the commercialization of programs from brands such as Lego Education and the promotion of school robotics competitions like First Lego League and World Robot Olympiad (WRO).
The incorporation of Ro-botica into the Abacus cooperative aims to strengthen the Abacus School area, betting on the creation and distribution of STEAM content for schools that contribute to promoting scientific-technological vocations and the digital and technological competence development of society.
With this operation, Abacus wants to continue creating innovative content and products to face the new curricula and the needs of the educational system, which is in constant transformation. Ro-botica aims to enhance training aimed at adapting teachers to the use of new educational methodologies, offering complete support to schools in the face of new digital environments. To be able to help teachers, Abacus wants to favor their training to enable them to use new educational tools. ''Education is an increasingly greater challenge and teachers need more support than ever,'' assures Oriol Soler, co-general director of Abacus.
In parallel, Francesc Farrés, general director of Ro-botica, believes that the incorporation of the company into the cooperative will contribute to the digital and technological development of society, as it promotes a model of inclusive, equitable, and quality education. His will is ''to foster students' critical thinking and prepare young people for an increasingly digital future,'' through education in the scientific and technological field, together with STEAM literacy, the English acronym for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
Schools are not the only ones that benefit from Ro-Botica's business area; city councils, museums, public spaces, and other events or competitions also receive the positive impact of its service. Farrés explains that its main function is ''to humanize programming, electronics and give life to robots, promoting meaningful and experiential learning and stimulating proactivity in all experiences''.
The acquisition of Ro-Botica is one of the 16 strategic projects planned in the AbacusNext investment plan, in which the cooperative plans to invest 30 million euros between 2023 and 2027.
