The CaixaProinfancia program of the "la Caixa" Foundation is promoting camps, urban colonies, and other activities this summer for nearly 9,000 vulnerable children and adolescents throughout Catalonia. The initiative aims to guarantee access to educational leisure experiences during the summer period, a particularly complex time for many of these families.

Summer is not the same for everyone. While many families enjoy their vacations, others face this period with greater economic and work-life balance difficulties. For thousands of children and adolescents in vulnerable situations, this means losing access to safe spaces, educational activities, and opportunities for leisure and rest.

To address this reality, the CaixaProinfancia program of the "la Caixa" Foundation is once again promoting its summer activities offer aimed at children and adolescents in vulnerable situations. Between June and September, more than 30,000 minors throughout Spain will participate free of charge in camps, colonies, and open centers organized in collaboration with social entities across the territory. In Catalonia, nearly 9,000 participants are expected.

"CaixaProinfancia's summer activities are much more than a leisure proposal: they foster the personal and social development of children and adolescents with limited resources, help families reconcile, and ensure that children can exercise their right to leisure, rest, and enjoy summer with equal opportunities," states Marc Simón, Deputy General Director of Social at the "la Caixa" Foundation.

CaixaProinfancia's summer activities offer combines recreational, cultural, artistic, and sports proposals with socio-educational support. Through play, coexistence, and group participation, children and adolescents develop personal and social competencies such as self-esteem, autonomy, empathy, or the ability to relate to others, while enjoying an enriching summer with equal opportunities.

Furthermore, this year, the program incorporates the activity "Camps on Stage!", a proposal consisting of five theatrical dynamics that culminate in the collective creation of a simple play. Through this activity, key values and competencies such as creativity, emotional expression, confidence, cooperation, and social cohesion are worked on.

Integral and sustained support for families

CaixaProinfància is a program of the "la Caixa" Foundation aimed at vulnerable households with children between 0 and 18 years old. Its objective is to break the intergenerational transmission of poverty through a comprehensive intervention model that combines educational reinforcement, leisure and free time, psychosocial care, family support, and aid to cover basic needs.

Last year, the program supported more than 67,000 children and adolescents throughout Spain through a network of more than 475 social entities that adapt the intervention to the reality and needs of each territory. The program is present in all autonomous communities and in the two autonomous cities.

In addition, as a private intermediate body of the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), the "la Caixa" Foundation co-finances and manages the Más Infancia call to fight against child poverty, which also offers educational leisure activities during the summer months to 2,000 children and adolescents through 171 social entities selected in the call.

The strength of opportunities

In Spain, one in three children grows up in contexts marked by poverty and lack of opportunities. Economic difficulties, precariousness, or barriers to accessing educational and social resources continue to condition the present and future of thousands of families.

To help break this cycle of inequality, the "la Caixa" Foundation promotes socio-educational support programs for children and young people in vulnerable situations, such as CaixaProinfància, Incorpora Joven, the Degree Scholarships, EduCaixa, the Social Projects Calls, or the Más Infancia and Más Empleo Joven calls.

Each year, more than 140,000 children and young people receive support through these programs, developed together with a wide network of social entities. In 2026, the "la Caixa" Foundation will allocate more than 700 million euros to social transformation to act where needs are most urgent.
