700 years of history behind the doors of the Llotja de Mar

For more than seven centuries, it has been the scene of some of the most important episodes in Barcelona's history. However, its monumental halls, decorated with frescoes, sculptures, and ceilings that invite one to look up, have almost always been reserved for accredited individuals attending congresses, meetings, or other corporate events. Since the end of July, however, the Llotja de Mar has opened its doors to the public for the first time on a regular basis, offering the opportunity to discover one of the city's most emblematic—and also most unknown—buildings. 

While the self-guided visit already allows one to delve into more than 700 years of history (Monday to Sunday, 11 am to 5 pm), it is during the summer and Christmas months, when institutional activity decreases, that the guided tours by Cases Singulars reveal some of its best-kept secrets: from the origin of the term bankruptcy to the facade that featured in the first photograph taken in Barcelona.
