22@: the connection gate with global innovation

november 07, 2025 - 00:49

When I think about the future of 22@ ten years from now, I imagine it as a living ecosystem, full of global hubs, innovation and digital transformation departments, and companies that choose Barcelona to lead the new knowledge economy. I don't imagine it as just a technology district, but as the bridge between our city and global innovation. A space where creativity, sustainability, and collective intelligence transform the way we live, work, and collaborate.

Barcelona will thus consolidate itself as Europe's most advanced piloting space
In 2035, the 22@it will be an international concentration territory for knowledge. We will see more than a hundredhubstechnological and innovation hubs of large corporations coexisting withstartupsand research centers. Each building will be a node of creativity interconnected with the rest of the world. From thetech hubfrom a multinational to an artificial intelligence laboratory or a circular design center, everything will be part of aglobal open innovation networkwith Barcelona as the epicenter. The district will become the natural space where global companies imagine, prototype, and test the future.

Within ten years, 22@ will function as a permanent urban laboratory. It will be the place where emerging technologies ---artificial intelligence, robotics, biotechnology, autonomous mobility, or clean energy--- are tested before scaling to the rest of the world. Buildings, streets, and services will be designed as experimentation platforms, allowing innovation to be experienced and measured in real time. Barcelona will thus consolidate itself as Europe's most advanced piloting space, where alliances between companies, universities, and administrations will turn urban challenges into global opportunities.

The 22@ of the future will also be greener and more sustainable. New buildings will be energy-neutral, public spaces will be designed for people, and mobility will be clean, intelligent, and shared. Technology will serve to balance productivity and well-being, and data will be used to optimize resources, reduce emissions, and create healthier urban communities. By 2035, 22@ will be a model of a regenerative city, where innovation not only drives the economy but also the quality of life and respect for the environment.

The future of 22@ will not be built with technology alone, but with collaboration. The district's strength has always been its public-private network, which connects institutions, universities, startups, and large companies with a common purpose: to innovate to improve people's lives. Within ten years, this network will be more global, diverse, and transversal, consolidating 22@Network Barcelona as the meeting point for ideas that transform the world. The district will project itself as a global community of innovation, open, human, and committed.

Barcelona will continue to be a city of talent and opportunities, and 22@, its urban laboratory
My vision for the future is clear:22@ will be the European epicenter of applied innovation, a district where talent, technology, and sustainability converge. A place that drives global projects from a local model, serving as a bridge between the five continents and exporting knowledge, culture, and solutions for a smarter and more human planet. Barcelona will continue to be a city of talent and opportunities, and 22@, its urban laboratory and gateway to global innovation.
