The venture capital firm specialized in biotechnology has closed its third fund, Ysios BioFund III, with an amount of 216 million euros, far exceeding its initial objective and achieving a record amount for the sector in Spain. In line with the two preceding funds, the resources will serve to support therapeutic innovation that responds to unmet medical needs.

Ysios Capital, with offices in Barcelona and San Sebastián, will invest in a maximum of 15 companies with its third fund, all of them in early and development stages and mainly from Europe and the United States. The initial investment will be between one and ten million euros, up to a maximum of 20 million during the entire life of the investee.

So far, Ysios BioFund III has already invested in eight companies in the last 12 months, committing 60% of the capital. Among them, there are two Spanish companies, SpliceBio and Ona Therapeutics. The latter closed the largest series A round for a biotechnology company in Spain, for 30 million euros.

Among the investors, the European Investment Fund (EIF) stands out, which has contributed a total of 60 million, 27.7% of the total. Likewise, YsiosBioFund III has expanded its investor base by incorporating new national institutional investors and international family offices.

"The fund has been excellently received as a result of our specialization, at a particularly decisive moment for the biotechnology sector, and our proven experience and the quality of our team. We are very happy to have a solid investor base," remarks Ysios Capital partner, Julia Salaverria.

After thirteen years of experience, Ysios Capital has made 34 investments and four IPOs. The companies in which it has invested have brought 14 products to market and have 40 in clinical phase, allocating more than 1,000 million euros to research and development (R&D). Among its successes, the sale of Tigenix or Stat-Diagnostica stands out. With Ysios BioFund III, the venture capital firm manages more than 400 million euros.
