The venture capital firm Ysios Capital takes a strategic step to reinforce its role in the biotechnology ecosystem: entering fully into the earliest stages of company creation. The manager has announced the incorporation of Joan Perelló as Managing Partner and Arturo Urrios as Partner to lead a new vertical focused on the creation of early-stage companies and projects, with a special focus on Spain.

The move represents a natural evolution of Ysios' strategy, traditionally focused on investments in more advanced stages within life sciences. With this new line, the firm expands its scope of action to identify opportunities from their origin, working more closely with universities, research centers, and scientific entrepreneurs. All, with one objective: to transform excellent science into biotechnology companies capable of generating real impact.

The new vertical is not born in isolation, but as a complement to the firm's recent initiatives —including the Telescope Biotech Fund. Thus, together, they now reinforce Ysios' ability to cover the entire life cycle of biomedical innovation, from the initial idea to its clinical and commercial development.

Thus, this step represents an opportunity to boost the ecosystem from its foundations, as highlighted by Perelló, who had already collaborated with the firm as a venture partner since 2022: "Taking this step now to join the team as Managing Partner and work on the development of this new vertical is a natural evolution and a great opportunity to promote the creation of companies in Spain based on excellent science," highlights Perelló. An entrepreneur with extensive experience in R&D&I, he has founded two spin-offs and has chaired various biotech and medtech companies in Spain and France. Among them, he is co-founder and former CEO of Sanifit, which attracted more than 140 million euros before being acquired by Vifor Pharma for 375 million. With a degree and doctorate in Chemistry from the Universitat de les Illes Balears, where he works as a professor, he also has more than 40 awards in research and innovation.

"We are facing a unique opportunity to transform top-level scientific research and accelerate the arrival of these innovations to patients," Urrios added, "Ysios has the ideal combination of investment and operational experience that is necessary to accompany this process from its initial stages," added the new partner, with a hybrid profile that combines science, business, and investment. A graduate in Human Biology, with a master's in Biomedical Research, an MBA, and a doctorate in Biomedicine, he has developed his career in firms such as BioInnovation Institute, Wellington Partners, and M Ventures. Urrios was part of the founding team of Seamless Therapeutics, where he led business development and helped close an alliance with Eli Lilly and Company valued at 1.1 billion dollars. In addition, he is co-founder of the European association YVC Collective, for emerging venture capital professionals in life sciences.

From the firm's management, Joël Jean-Mairet highlights the differential value of both additions: "A rare combination of experience in venture capital, company creation, and business leadership in biotechnology." With them, Ysios "strengthens its ability to drive projects from very early stages and continue transforming excellent science into new therapies for patients."

Thus, with this commitment, Ysios Capital reinforces its position as a bridge between scientific research and the market and patients. Founded in 2008 and with more than 400 million euros under management, the firm takes another step: not only financing innovation but also contributing to creating it from its earliest stages.
