The company led by Ignasi Vilajosana uses the Internet of Things (IoT) to design solutions that allow real-time monitoring of urban infrastructures and monuments, and to obtain information through sensors. With a wireless, battery-powered data transmission solution, Worldsensing can contribute to preserving cultural heritage and predicting the exhaustion and collapse of infrastructures, as well as the catastrophes that may affect them, such as landslides and floods. It also monitors waste deposits in the mining sector, improving the safety of its workers, who normally collect data manually, and of the communities living near these sites.

Recent examples of projects where Worldsensing's technology has been applied include the expansion of the Paris metro, the control of the construction of the metro tunnel for the U5 line extension in Frankfurt, and the monitoring of water wells in an open-pit mine in Chile. Sectors like these are some of those that can benefit from the solutions of the Barcelona-based company, which now has an opportunity to increase its production capacity, develop a portfolio of new products, and expand internationally with the financing granted by the European Investment Bank (EIB). Specifically, the institution will provide a total of ten million euros to support its research and development strategy, which is expected to generate 50 new highly skilled jobs.

"The EIB's investment will allow us to accelerate our solution development. As market leaders in this segment, we see that safeguarding essential infrastructures is a mission that Worldsensing can carry out from a unique position. At this point in our growth, EIB financing will help us expand our global footprint and continue to drive infrastructure resilience and safety," explains the company's CFO, David Deprez.

Worldsensing, a pioneer in IoT and specialized in industrial monitoring, works with more than 270 engineering partners in 60 countries. Founded in 2008, it has about 80 employees and offices in Barcelona, London, Los Angeles, and Singapore. It has investors such as Cisco Systems, Mitsui & Co, McRock Capital, and ETF Partners.
