Werfen's diagnostic and laboratory solutions have led the company to invoice 2,184 million euros in 2024, 4% more than the previous year. With these sales, the Catalan multinational has reduced its gross debt by 256 million euros, and has recorded a net profit of 170 million euros, a figure similar to that of the previous year, when it was 169 million.
In this context, the company founded in Barcelona in 1966 has redoubled its commitment to specialized diagnostics, while it has maintained its strategy of parking its medical device distribution business. "The sale of medical devices represents a strategic decision that positions us as a company 100% focused and specialized in in vitro diagnostics," highlighted Werfen's CEO, Carlos Pascual.
To accelerate this positioning, Werfen has allocated 179 million euros to R&D in 2024, 6% more than the previous year. In addition, last year was marked by the acquisition of the Hungarian company Omixon to strengthen its transplant business line, after having also bought Immucor in 2023, specialized in transfusion and transplant diagnostics.
The last fiscal year was also characterized by the commercialization of products launched the previous year. "With these launches, we reinforce our purpose of contributing to the advancement of patient care worldwide through innovation in specialized diagnostics," Pascual highlighted, after a year in which the company reached an ebitda of 545 million euros, 6% more than in 2023.
Werfen closed 2024 not only with these results, but also with an announcement: the succession of Pascual at the helm of the company after 37 years in the company, with the appointment of Alejandro Risso as CEO, currently president of Clinical Diagnostics at Thermo Fisher Scientific. "I am extremely confident about the coming years; Werfen is an exceptional company, backed by a solid financial trajectory and with a promising future," assured Risso, who will assume the position on May 1.
The company has direct activity in 30 countries and reaches 100 territories through distributors, operating as a developer, manufacturer, and distributor of specialized diagnostic instruments, as well as related reagents, automation work cells, and data management solutions for use primarily in hospitals and clinical laboratories.
