Veritas reaffirms its leadership in the organic products market. The supermarket chain closed 2024 with a turnover of 122 million euros, representing a 5% growth compared to the previous year. With this figure, the company continues unstoppable, especially in Catalonia, the autonomous community where it was born, although it now has 84 establishments spread practically throughout Spain.
At the beginning of 2002, Veritas opened the first supermarket for certified organic products in Barcelona. More than two decades later, the company reaches a market share of 18.65% in Catalonia, meaning that practically two out of ten organic products are bought in a Veritas store. However, it is in the rest of Spain where the company has more room for growth, as the market share drops to 8.5% in the country as a whole.
For this reason, the company's plans for this year include new openings in Catalonia, Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, the Basque Country, and Madrid. After inaugurating a new establishment in Campos (Mallorca) in January, the company plans to invest six million euros in the opening of seven new stores, with the aim of exceeding 90 supermarkets by the end of 2025. "Our challenge for this 2025 is to continue expanding our presence in the territory to bring organic food closer to more homes, contributing to a more conscious and healthy consumption model," highlighted Veritas CEO, Anselmo Méndez.
In 2024, the supermarket chain opened five new stores after investing five million euros, two of them in Estepona (Andalusia), an autonomous community where the company landed for the first time. However, the chain's growth plan projected eight new establishments in 2024, a plan that could not be executed due to delays in necessary permits and licenses.
In addition to these openings, last year, Veritas also invested 500,000 euros in machinery and improvement of production processes at its workshop in Lliçà d'Amunt, where more than 25 varieties of organic breads are made daily. On the other hand, the company has also allocated 100,000 euros to R&D for the development of new products and production processes.
Currently, Veritas offers a variety of more than 6,000 organically certified products, prioritizing local and seasonal produce. During 2024, more than 250,000 families accessed organic food through its supermarkets, 13% more than in 2023. "Our growth reflects not only the growing interest in healthy eating, but also consumers' trust in our conviction for certified organic products," Méndez said.
In line with its commitment to the environment, during its previous fiscal year Veritas also launched the campaign Return, reuse and start again, through which it rewards its customers with ten cents for each returned container of glass bottles of vegetable creams and gazpacho. In addition, it also implemented the Veri-transformer initiative to measure and promote good environmental practices among its suppliers and offer preferential financing conditions to those companies most committed to sustainability.
