The city's billboard premieres great lyrical productions, adaptations of universal classics, and new voices of contemporary dramaturgy to talk about mystery, historical memory, and to ask big questions about the human condition. The Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatre Romea, Lliure, and local venues propose new theatrical productions that can be seen in the city in the coming days.

Juan Mayorga adapts Cervantes in Palabra de perro

  • Teatre Romea
  • From October 28 to November 8, 2026

Teatre Romea premieres Palabra de perro, a theatrical adaptation by playwright Juan Mayorga based on Miguel de Cervantes' work El coloquio de los perros. The piece revives the characters of Cipión and Berganza, two dogs miraculously endowed with speech, to turn them into observers of human nature.

The two protagonists analyze the contradictions, weaknesses, and vices of society through a dialogue full of irony to question who has the right to tell the truth and how morality is constructed. The production combines classical tradition and modernity to offer an accessible social critique that uses humor as a mirror of human behavior.

Navegar por el Neva, Latin American theater at Lliure

  • Teatre Lliure de Montjuïc
  • From October 27 to 29, 2026

Espai Lliure premieres Navegar por el Neva, a production that revives the work Neva by Chilean author and director Guillermo Calderón thirteen years after its last performance. Under the direction of Trinidad González, the company reunites to adapt the text to the new corporal and expressive realities of one of its actors after suffering a stroke.

The play delves into the biographical and creative universe of Russian playwright Anton P. Chekhov to propose a reflection on the meaning and persistence of theater in times of crisis. Through this revision, the play questions why we continue to seek in performing arts a space of resistance, community, and human expression despite life's adversities.

Lisette Oropesa stars in I Capuleti e i Montecchi at Liceu

  • Gran Teatre del Liceu
  • From October 30 to November 11, 2026

The Gran Teatre del Liceu premieres the opera I Capuleti e i Montecchi by Vincenzo Bellini. The production by Adrian Noble for La Scala in Milan arrives in Barcelona under the musical direction of Riccardo Frizza and with the solo voices of Lisette Oropesa and Raffaella Lupinacci. We are facing a revision of the myth of Romeo and Juliet focused on the tradition of Italian singing.

The staging moves away from traditional romanticism to frame the conflict in the struggle of factions, where the love between the two young people is perceived as a defiant gesture against the norms of family honor. Bellini's melodies serve to show the vulnerability of the protagonists in an environment marked by discord and where their outcome is presented as an act of fidelity in the face of a hostile world.

A fuego, a satirical monologue about narcissism

  • Heartbreak Hotel
  • From October 28 to November 6, 2026

The Heartbreak Hotel theater presents the verse monologue A fuego, a proposal written and performed by Rubén de Eguía that talks about the desire for transcendence through the figure of Herostratus. The play takes as a reference the shepherd from Ancient Greece who set fire to the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus —one of the seven wonders of the ancient world— with the sole objective of making his name pass into posterity.

The piece is constructed with language full of satire, wordplay, and metatheatricality to show how the protagonist's fascination with the historical character transforms into a dangerous obsession. A work that invites reflection on the narcissism of contemporary society and the human need to leave a mark at any cost.

The dramatic thriller La setmana del diluvi arrives

  • Dau al Sec
  • From October 22, 2026 to March 21, 2027

Dau al Sec programs La setmana del diluvi, a dramatic thriller written by Eva Hibernia. The play deals with the aftermath of social abuse and the need to heal wounds buried by family silence. The play combines elements of mystery, tension, and scenic poetry in a process of confrontation with the past.

The plot begins with the arrival of a young woman at a small inn during a stormy night, where she establishes an unexpected connection with the owner. The appearance of a third character activates a game of revelations that connects the present with hidden secrets, and offers the protagonists the possibility of a symbolic emotional cleansing like a flood that renews everything.

Queralt Riera premieres the poetic proposal Perdona’m cos meu

  • Teatre Akadèmia
  • From October 28 to November 22, 2026

Teatre Akadèmia presents Perdona’m cos meu, written and directed by Queralt Riera. Performed by Mireia Aixalà, Àfrica Alonso, and Annabel Castan, the production is a triptych of voices that examines how sexist violence infiltrates daily life through three intertwined stories.

The work uses a poetic staging where childhood memories, songs, popular traditions, and references to Greek mythology intertwine to show how the structural fact is camouflaged in daily routine. Besides being a cry of denunciation, the piece is presented as an intimate portrait of survival, self-love, the reconstruction of the body, and the strength of bonds between women.

The NovAria company presents Carmen by Bizet

  • Teatre Apolo
  • October 28, 2026

The Teatre Apolo hosts the performance of the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet, by the lyrical company NovAria, founded by tenor Sergi Giménez Carreras. The production features a live symphony orchestra, solo singers, choir, dance troupe, and a display of costumes and lighting designed to transport the audience to the atmosphere of 19th-century Seville.

The plot follows the story of Carmen, an independent woman who defends her freedom above all else and awakens an obsessive passion in the soldier Don José. The conflict between desire, jealousy, and destiny unfolds through one of the most popular scores in the operatic repertoire, which combines French romanticism with elements of Spanish folklore.

Evident Evidences of Witchcraft, a re-reading of women's trials

  • Teatre Tantarantana
  • From October 29 to November 15, 2026

The Teatre Tantarantana presents Evident Evidences of Witchcraft, written by Queralt Riera and directed by Clara Manyós. The proposal recovers the figure of Margarida de Rugall, a woman condemned to the gallows for witchcraft in Vall Fosca in the mid-16th century, and is based on the original transcriptions of her judicial process.

The work takes place in a timeline that connects the condemned mother, the daughter who watches over her, and a contemporary descendant who discovers family memory. A piece that demonstrates that female independence and self-sufficiency were a reason for persecution and is presented as an exercise in historical memory to question what judgments and prejudices continue to affect women in today's society.
