The group of Chinese companies that have chosen Catalonia for their international expansion in recent years adds a new player. The textile sector company Shanghai Jingqingrong Garment will open in Ripollet what will be the company's first production plant outside of China. The company, which designs, manufactures, and distributes clothing items to large fashion chains, will invest three million euros in this new center, which will start operating during the first quarter of 2024.

With this project, the company plans to create about thirty jobs, which will specialize in the manufacturing of knitwear products. These items will be supplied to the company's clients, which include large multinational fashion chains such as Uniqlo, H&M, and COS. The company is currently adapting the plant where its new production center will be located.

The company, which has had the support of Acció, the competitiveness agency of the Generalitat, currently has more than 2,000 employees. From its factories in Shanghai and the Chinese provinces of Henan and Anhui, it distributes clothing items to firms mainly in the European Union, the United States, and Canada.

Shanghai Jingqingrong Garment was precisely one of the companies with which the Catalan institutional delegation met when it traveled to China in October. Company executives met with the Director General of Industry, Oriol Alcoba, on a trip organized with the aim of attracting new foreign investment projects.

Catalonia, a pole of attraction for investments

This investment is not an isolated anecdote, but rather is part of a framework in which Chinese companies are making a strong presence in Catalonia. In the last five years, foreign investment from the Asian giant has reached 1,164 million euros and has led to the creation of 2,100 jobs.

"It is no coincidence that Chinese companies decide to begin their international expansion strategy in Catalonia, one of the most industrialized territories in Europe and one of the main gateways to the continent," defends the Minister of Business and Labor of the Generalitat, Roger Torrent. Catalonia currently has 114 Chinese subsidiaries established in its municipalities, included among the more than 9,000 foreign companies established in Catalonia, consolidated as a pole of attraction for international investments.
