With the will to redefine and transform orchestra concerts, fifty musicians have grouped together in the new Orquestra Sònica, which presents itself as the first non-classical professional orchestra in Southern Europe.
The initiative, promoted by the cooperatives Contrapunt and Musicoop, aims to combine the power of this instrumental format with musical, audiovisual, and technological innovation to offer new experiences in orchestra concerts.
The Orquestra Sònica, which will debut in May at Paral·lel 62, covers repertoires of diverse genres ranging from pop to electronic music, passing through reggae, soul, flamenco, and jazz. After its premiere in the Barcelona venue, which serves as the central headquarters of the ensemble, the new orchestra plans to undertake a national and European tour.
The new formation, which takes as reference great European orchestras such as the Metropole Orkest from the Netherlands and the Heritage Orchestra from the United Kingdom, is committed to the labor incorporation and projection of young local talent, with also collaborations from international artists and European tours. Also in this line, it proposes to feature the participation of conductors and artists from all over the world in each new production.
The debut at Paral·lel 62, which will take place on May 15 and 16, will fuse the voices and repertoires of the American Becca Stevens and the Catalan Rita Payés, under the direction of Miho Hazama, consolidated as one of the most outstanding contemporary composers and conductors on the international music scene.
