Ruti Inmune has highlighted that this is the first Spanish vaccine to enter an international clinical trial against the coronavirus. To do so, the company has initiated the logistical procedures to ensure that the vaccine arrives in Argentina in less than a month and can begin to be administered among healthcare personnel. In Spain, the Ruti vaccine, based on trained innate immunity, may also be tested in a very similar clinical trial, led by the Germans Trias i Pujol Institute.
The main objective of the study in Argentina will be to evaluate the efficacy of the Ruti vaccine in preventing infections and reducing morbidity due to SARS-CoV-2 among healthcare personnel. The vaccine will be administered to more than 350 workers from various Argentine hospital centers and will last nine months. The principal investigator will be Dr. Pere-Joan Cardona, inventor of the Ruti vaccine and researcher in the Microbiology department of the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital.
