The newspaper The New York Times, with a total of 125 awards, tops the ranking of media outlets that have won the most Pulitzer prizes throughout the history of these awards, the most important in the journalistic world.
The New York newspaper has obtained three Pulitzers in this year's edition, whose winners were announced this Monday, April 16, in New York City.
The three NYT Pulitzers are as follows:
- The award in the main category, Public Service, for its journalistic coverage of sexual harassment cases in various professional fields. This award is shared with The New Yorker magazine.
- The Pulitzer in the National Reporting category, shared with The Washington Post newspaper, for coverage of the connections of President Donald Trump's team with the Russians and their interference in the 2016 elections.
- The Pulitzer in the Editorial Cartooning category went to the comic series "Welcome to the New World" published by the NYT, which narrates the life of a Syrian refugee family that arrived in the United States.
In addition to the aforementioned award in the National category, shared with the NYT, the Post has won in the Investigative Journalism category for its reports on the alleged cases of sexual harassment by Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore committed decades ago.
The other three media outlets with the most accumulated Pulitzer Prizes throughout history have not added new awards this year. These are the Associated Press agency (52 awards), the Los Angeles Times newspaper (46), and The Wall Street Journal newspaper (37).
In this year's edition, the Reuters agency has obtained two awards: international journalism and photography. It is the first time Reuters has obtained two Pulitzers in the same year.
