The lights return to the Port of Barcelona, with a spectacle of colors and music presided over by the largest Christmas tree in Catalonia, standing 31 meters tall. The installation features a route that allows visitors to see the different lights that have been lit for these holidays in the Moll de la Fusta, with a representation of the nativity scene and the Three Wise Men from the East, in addition to the Christmas tree. Historic boats from the Maritime Museum and the palm trees of the Moll de la Fusta have also been illuminated, turning it into a boulevard of light and another street in the city of Barcelona. All of this will be accompanied by music every afternoon from 5:30 p.m. and can be visited from December 2 to January 6 in the Port Vell.

The second edition of Nadal al Port has adapted to the safety and hygiene measures due to covid-19, maintaining its commitment to the city with a reduced format. The Port of Barcelona has once again programmed the Christmas event to reaffirm its commitment to Barcelona, with the aim of becoming a meeting point and strengthening the port-city relationship and contributing to social, cultural, and economic revitalization.

The Port's Christmas show aims to be one of the reference points for these holidays in the city, filling it with light and color, both by land and by sea with a combination of tradition and modernity. "From the Port of Barcelona, in the port-city sphere, we have every intention of joining forces with the city of Barcelona to jointly plan outdoor activities, activities aimed at families and the people of Barcelona," explains its president, Mercè Conesa.

This year's edition of Nadal at the Port also wants to support local businesses, restaurateurs, and gastronomy by inviting Barcelona residents to stroll through Port Vell, despite the fact that it will not have the Christmas fair that was held last year, with a gastronomic and artisanal offer, due to security issues related to the pandemic. Despite everything, for the president of the Port of Barcelona, this Christmas show allows to "dynamize" the Moll de la Fusta area, as demonstrated by the "good reception" it had a year ago.

The lighting of the lights

Carmela, Sol, Emma and Bernat have been in charge of illuminating the Port of Barcelona this Christmas. The four, children of infrastructure workers, have been the protagonists of the lighting of the lights that kicked off the festivities at the Moll de la Fusta, in which the president of the Port of Barcelona, Mercè Conesa, and the first deputy mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, also participated.

At the inauguration ceremony, last December 2, the four children pressed a large red button ---after applying the corresponding hydroalcoholic gel--- and lit the different lights that make up the second edition of Nadal al Port. First, Carmela lit the lights on the palm trees of the promenade and the historic boats of the Museu Marítim. Then, Sol and Emma did so with the representation of the nativity scene and the Three Wise Men that float in the water, in front of the pier. Finally, Bernat was in charge of illuminating the Christmas tree, which lit up to the rhythm of the carol Fum, fum, fum, performed by the Orfeó Català.

This carol will be one of those that will sound every afternoon at the Moll de la Fusta, in a spectacle of lights, music and color in the Port Vell of Barcelona. But it will not be the only song that will be heard. I feel good by James Brown and Last Christmas by George Michael will also do so, accompanied by the soundtrack of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Strict security protocol for covid-19

The second edition of the Port of Barcelona's Christmas show has also adapted to the context of covid-19. For this reason, the celebration of this Christmas at the Moll de la Fusta has been very carefully planned and security has been prioritized above all else.

In this regard, a strict protocol has been foreseen with hygiene measures, social distancing and capacity limitation to access the Christmas tree and the facilities at Moll de la Fusta. A closed and one-way route has been enabled, which will be controlled by security personnel. In addition, before accessing, visitors will have to scan a QR code to fill out a form and thus control the capacity at all times.
