The Ministry of Transport has determined the action plan it will carry out in Catalonia's railway network in the coming months, through Adif, Adif Alta Velocidad and Renfe, which includes advances in the adaptation of the new facilities of the Rodalies station of Sant Andreu Comtal, which will improve services with a more modern and accessible offering; and which would come into operation before the end of this year. The project is part of a set of works with a global investment of 471 million euros, as specified by the ministry.
For the city of Barcelona, another important work will be the transfer of the conventional gauge tracks of the Barcelona-Granollers-Portbou line to the interior of the structure of the future Sagrera station, once a tunnel of approximately 2 kilometers in length has been completed and put into service. This will be the second major milestone of railway operation for what is destined to be the Station of Stations, after the entry into operation, in December 2020, of the Barcelona-Mataró line. The works on the infrastructures of Sant Andreu Comtal and La Sagrera have a budget of more than 68 million euros.
Furthermore, the development of the Mediterranean Corridor will continue with the adaptation of the Castellbisbal tunnel, which will serve to link in broad standard the works already carried out between Castellbisbal and the French border and also those to the south, between Vila-seca and Martorell. The budget for the action amounts to 152.85 million euros.
Likewise, the urban integration of the railway in Sant Feliu de Llobregat will be carried out, where the level crossing at the exit of the station will be eliminated and a provisional station will be put into service while the works on the underground section last. All of this has a budget of 110 million euros. Meanwhile, in Molins de Rei, the works will be to remodel the station where four elevators will be installed with a budget of 6 million euros and an estimated execution period of 15 months.
On the other hand, works have also been planned to improve the section between Martorell and Sant Vicenç de Calders, to renovate the structure, implement the third rail, adapt the electrification, extend the siding tracks to 750 meters and build new underpasses, with a cost of 134.2 million euros.
In this regard, the Ministry of Transport has reported that lines R4, R8, and R1 of Rodalies will be affected by the works to carry out the projects. Service alterations will occur between next Saturday, April 23, and February 2023; however, a new service offering has been designed for lines R1, R3, R4, R7, R12, and RG1 that will offer more homogeneous frequencies and simpler schedules.
