Time Out magazine will open Time Out Market in 2024, a market that plans to bring together "the best" of Barcelona in the fields of gastronomy and culture on the terrace of the Maremagnum in Barcelona's Port Vell.
The project will occupy an area of 5,250 square meters and will include fourteen kitchens, a full-service restaurant, four bars, an event space and stage, a radio studio, and an outdoor terrace with panoramic views of the city, the port, and the sea. The market is expected to open its doors in the first half of next year in Port Vell, on the Maremagnum's viewing terrace, which is currently undergoing renovation.
"Barcelona is considered one of the best gastronomic destinations in the world and fits perfectly with our brand. We are delighted to bring Time Out Market to this vibrant and fabulous city and we look forward to working with our local team to recommend and bring together the best of Barcelona, leveraging all their experience and knowledge of the city," said Jay Coldren, co-CEO of Time Out Market.
The company's executives expect the launch to contribute to boosting the local economy since, according to their forecasts, it will generate a variety of jobs and new promotion opportunities for gastronomic and cultural creators in the Catalan capital. The market will be directly accessible from the street via an escalator and an elevator.
The Time Out Market in Barcelona will be the first in Spain and the second in Europe. The initiative began in Lisbon in 2014 and in 2019 continued in Miami, New York, Boston, Montreal, and Chicago. In 2021 it arrived in Dubai. New markets will also soon open in Porto, Cape Town, and Vancouver. Time Out editors emphasize that the execution and management of each market is 100% local.
The General Director of Strategy for Time Out Spain, Eduard Voltas, has emphasized that the will of the promoters is to "help the city reconquer the Port Vell" by creating "a new gastronomic and cultural hub." The editors of Time Out Barcelona, they explain, will select the chefs and restaurateurs who best represent the flavors of the city, and the mission of the Maremagnum market will be to make them affordable and accessible to the general public of Barcelona, who will be able to taste their proposals at the communal tables that so characterize the brand's gastronomic markets, with a unique design.
