The hotel industry in Barcelona reopens and these are its best proposals

That Barcelona faces new and great challenges today is undeniable, that hotels are doing their part, too

It's official: hotels in Barcelona are back. But, with what proposals? From an exciting gastronomic array, bird's-eye view pools, and even a private club. Today we make it easy for you to find the perfect plan for a getaway in the Ciudad Condal.

Being the only Relais & Châteaux hotel in Barcelona and having been awarded as a hotel that adds value to the city's heritage guarantees that we are in a hotel as special as it is unique.

We are talking about the Hotel Neri, located in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, whose reopening has coincided with the inauguration of an infinity pool on the rooftop, as well as with the new aesthetic of its urban garden Roba Estesa. Its director, Mayvany Bong, explains: "we have taken advantage of this moment of pause and reflection to make improvements in the hotel, such as the pool and the garden. We have also reviewed the proposal of our restaurant A Restaurant, where chef Alain Guiard has updated the menu to offer a proposal where dishes made with local and top-quality products are presented, respecting them in a way that they are recognized and enhancing all their flavor."

The Hotel Neri, in the Gothic Quarter, has taken advantage of the pandemic to make improvements.

Bong is aware that any hotel or hotel chain that wants to take a step forward at this time "will have to work hard." And not so much because of the much-touted reinvention, but because the ideas that work often need to be kept safe, and also strengthened.

What is clear is that this situation irremediably forces us to an update, to place certain hotel concepts in the current changing and uncertain situation, and this is confirmed by the property's own director: "we have been able to see where we are heading, health, care for the world and for ourselves is indispensable. We are committed to a responsible hotel model to support sustainable tourism. That is where we are focused and we will continue working to follow that path."

For Mandarin Oriental Barcelona the path forward is very similar, and they demonstrate this in their statements to The New Barcelona Post: "We must continue to react quickly and be flexible to adapt to circumstances in the best possible way. The priority must continue to be the well-being and care of our employees and clients. And, of course, maintain a positive attitude and generate opportunities at all times." These are the words of Jean Philippe Moser, general manager of the property in Barcelona.

The hotel, which remained closed for more than a year due to the pandemic, is now trying to reconnect with the luxury tourist for whom personalizing experiences is fundamental, in addition to offering impeccable service. And under these two premises, the hotel has designed a series of proposals that begin, of course, with the expected reopening of Moments, its 2 Michelin star restaurant, where Raül Balam and Carme Ruscalleda have prepared an exclusive menu under the name of Felicidad with which they hope to fill Barcelonians and tourists with flavor and creativity.

The menu, served in 11 courses, represents a journey through the chef's career from her beginnings in Sant Pol de Mar with dishes such as the cod and jalapeño croquette, passing through Tokyo and arriving in Barcelona with a characteristic mar y montaña based on pork, sea urchin, apple and cardamom. A recipe book based on tradition, nature and creativity, where dishes abound with landscape, product, culture and creative freedom. To Ruscalleda's Felicidad, other novelties are added, as the hotel's terrace, Terrat, also reopens, under the baton of Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio, a tandem that has lasted for years and, as seen, continues to work as if it were the first day.

And after happiness, relaxation, with another novelty, one of the fundamental pillars of the hotel, its spa. Created as an oasis of tranquility in the heart of the city, it is possibly the most serene space that can be found in the center of Barcelona. A place to balance body, mind and soul and where now some of the most exclusive and desired treatments can be found from Miriam Quevedo and Blauceldona.

Not far from the property managed by the Hong Kong hotel company is Monument Hotel, the 5-star Gran Lujo located at number 75 Paseo de Gracia, occupying the entrails of a neo-Gothic inspired palace, Casa Enric Batlló, built between 1895 and 1896 by the pre-modernist architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas, author among others of the Arc de Triomf of Barcelona.

The Barcelona hotel that gathers the most Michelin stars in its gastronomic offer, directed by Martín Berasategui ---12 Michelin stars--- and Paolo Casagrande ---3 Michelin stars---, opens all its spaces, some of which have been operational for some months now and, of course, adds quite a few novelties. Among them, its famous brunch stands out, served in Glass on the first and third Sunday of each month. In addition to the rooms and the SeaSkin Life Wellness area, Monument Hotel has also opened the outdoor pool, located on the rooftop, the solarium, and the fitness room.

Monument Hotel is part of Condes Hotels along with Hotel Condes de Barcelona 4* and Hotel España, also four stars. The three hotels of the group each have their own personality and uniqueness, but all of them share a common link: a central location in historic or emblematic buildings and an outstanding gastronomic offer directed by Martín Berasategui that we can finally enjoy in all its splendor this summer in Barcelona.

And from a hotel to a private club, or both at once, a complicated conjunction, but one that, judging by the results after several weeks in operation, works. The Amsterdam-based hotel group Sircle Collection has successfully launched its private club concept The Sircle at the facilities of Hotel Sir Victor of Barcelona (former Hotel Omm), a pilot test that hosts this initiative with which its creator, Liran Wizman, founder and owner of The Sircle, is delighted: "this city represents the spirit that has inspired the creation of The Sircle, an environment for creative talents always ready to welcome those who are willing to exchange and share ideas". And he continues: "we are especially satisfied to be successfully creating a meeting point between Barcelonians and expatriates who have made this city their new home".

But what is this about a private club inside a hotel? From its communication department, they confirm that "the hotel remains open as a hotel, so whether as a tourist or as a Barcelonian, it is possible to book a room or access the fantastic rooftop", where, by the way, you can also enjoy a wonderful dinner practically at the top of Barcelona. "And within the hotel itself, and more specifically on its sixth floor, an ad hoc space has been created with exclusive facilities intended for members of The Sircle to which tourists do not have access."

"The Sircle is a meeting point between Barcelonians and expatriates who have made this city their new home," its creator, Liran Wizman, tells us.
That the thing works leaves no room for doubt today, since after the successful opening of The Sircle Barcelona, the Amsterdam headquarters will open its doors next autumn within the emblematic W Amsterdam building, in the heart of the city. The Sircle Vienna will follow in 2022. Members of The Sircle Barcelona will be able to benefit from all the membership advantages of any of the club's other locations. As stated, ideas that work must be reinforced.
