The German multinational drugstore company Rossmann will open its first commercial premises in Barcelona. This will be the brand's largest and most representative store in Spain, where it has 23 establishments. The 1,000-square-meter premises are located at the intersection of Berlín and Numància streets, on the border between Les Corts and Sants.

From this location, the German firm ---with 50 years of experience--- will offer beauty and personal care products; organic food; accessories, and home cleaning, among others. In its new establishment, located on the ground floor of an office building, the chain will offer third-party brand products and also its own range.

Rossmann arrives in the Catalan capital as one of the largest drugstore chains in Europe. The first store opened in Hanover in 1972 and was a pioneer as a self-service drugstore in Germany. An expansion plan has led it to have more than 4,000 stores across Europe.

The company, which in 2022 had a turnover of more than 12,000 million euros, has stores in Germany, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Albania, Kosovo, and Turkey. The group's expansion plan has an investment volume of about 200 million euros.

The multinational plans to add about twenty more establishments in Spain by the end of this year. The project in Barcelona has had the advice of Cushman & Wakefield in the rental of the premises. Its head of retail in Spain, Domènec Casellas, has argued that this new opening demonstrates "the confidence that large international brands place in the city."

Rossmann's stores in Spain are concentrated on the Mediterranean coast and already include one in Sitges and another in Sant Pere de Ribes
Rossmann opened its first store in Spain in July 2020, and it did so in Valencia and despite the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, the chain has added establishments concentrated mainly on the Mediterranean coast,in cities like Granada, Torrevieja, and Dénia, as well as in the Balearic Islands. In Catalonia, it already has premises in Sitges and Sant Pere de Ribes, which opened last summer with less surface area than the premises that Barcelona is now opening.
