With the aim of placing research and innovation as the central axis of a knowledge-based society model, the Government of the Generalitat has approved an agreement that foresees allocating 51.1 million euros over four years to singular institutional projects that bet on the generation of excellent research, the attraction of talent and the development of knowledge transfer activities.

Specifically, this budget will be invested in projects that involve the construction, acquisition or expansion of buildings that allow increasing the current park of equipment destined for R&D activities. Cooperative projects for the construction, purchase or improvement of all types of shared technological platforms may also be financed.

The Government plans to finance projects that adapt to these characteristics with European funds from the certification of health expenditure derived from the Covid-19 crisis presented by the Generalitat to the European Commission.

It should be remembered that to cover all the extraordinary expenses caused by the pandemic, the Government had to reprogram European funds from the Feder 2014-2020 program, as authorized by the European Commission itself to alleviate the crisis. Thus, health economic urgencies have been addressed without compromising the financial solvency of the Generalitat, since the reallocation of funds has not meant a reduction in available resources.

In parallel, the Department of the Vice-presidency and Economy has negotiated alternative financing mechanisms to guarantee the viability of all projects that were to be covered by these Feder funds that have been reprogrammed for Covid.
