"Working body and mind to the rhythm of music, turning sport into a leisure and fun option." This is how Lapso Studios, a sportech founded in 2021 in Barcelona, defines its business proposal, offering 45-minute sessions of stationary bike or indoor cycling, combined with dance and accompaniment or coaching by different instructors.
The company has a center located at the confluence of Diagonal Avenue and Plaça Francesc Macià and was founded by Eugenia Llopart with four partners. After experiencing strong initial success and growth that this year will approach 50%, Lapso Studios has just closed its first round of financing thanks to the support of La Vida es Chula, the family office of Thomas Meyer, founder of Desigual. Thanks to this operation, in which another minority investor participated, Lapso Studio has managed to raise 1.5 million euros, a figure that will be used to finance the company's growth plan, which projects the opening of new indoor cycling studios in Barcelona and other cities to continue "revolutionizing the fitness market."
"We are enormously grateful to both Thomas and the rest of the investors for having trusted our project. For us, that an entrepreneur of Thomas's stature and trajectory has trusted Lapso is not only a validation of the business model, but also of our management. This operation represents a starting gun for a new stage of the company in which we will continue to grow and evolve," says the co-founder and CEO of Lapso Studios, Eugenia Llopart.
According to the entrepreneur, in 2023, revenues are expected to increase by more than 47%, going from a turnover of 542,000 euros in 2022 to more than 800,000 euros this year. In parallel, the sportech assures that this year will also be the second to register a positive EBITDA.
The business model developed by Lapso Studios is based on the pay-per-use model, in which the client pays for each session, although they can also opt for the purchase of packs or the payment of an unlimited access fee. Thus, a session is sold at a price of 19 euros and a pack of ten sessions (there are also packs of 5, 20 and 40) costs 160 euros. The Diagonal studio has about thirteen instructors, who teach classes from seven in the morning to eight in the evening from Monday to Friday and from nine in the morning to six in the evening on Saturdays and Sundays. Each coach imprints their own style on their session and chooses different types of music, from techno to pop, passing through house, electronic, rock, reggaeton, Latin music and even opera and classical music.
"Lapso Studios is much more than a workout, it's your space to dedicate time to yourself and train body, mind and soul," says the company, which claims to be at the service of a "cosmopolitan and demanding citizen who cares about their integral well-being without giving up the enjoyment of life." The firm has also launched a corporate service aimed at companies that want to promote fun and well-being among their employees.
According to Lapso Studios, its formula combines high-intensity physical activity on the bike with dance, strength, endurance, upper body exercises with dumbbells and coaching. Each workout, which lasts 45 minutes, is composed of twelve songs, reaching its climax in the penultimate one. "We are obsessed with the idea of offering our users the latest trends in the world of fitness and for this we do not rule out launching new modalities," says Llopart.
