Facing the responsibility of preserving and disseminating Catalan cinematographic heritage in a context marked by the challenges and opportunities presented by digitalization. This is the objective of the project designed by the new director of the Filmoteca, Pablo La Parra, who focuses the future of the institution with novelties such as a new program to host national and international residents.

After 14 years under the direction of Esteve Riambau, the Filmoteca opens this new stage with La Parra's intention to promote an online catalog that will allow consulting all Filmoteca materials through a single platform, as well as a new archive of Catalan cinema by active filmmakers, and a pilot program to preserve the oral history of cinema.

La Parra's program, until now head of Research at the Basque Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, aims to fill the Filmo's halls not only with film screenings, but also with other formats, such as seminars, workshops, conferences, and performances. In addition, he is committed to promoting programming exchanges with other international centers.

La Parra, who took office on July 1 after winning an international competition with 27 candidacies, also proposes to promote and redefine the uses of the Cinema Library, which makes resources on world and Catalan cinema available to the public, from its origins to the present day.

Furthermore, with the aim of gaining flexibility, the Filmoteca will go from being organized by annual programs to having two seasons per year, in order to gain reactivity and capacity for dialogue with the audiences and trends of the moment.
