The Danish electric vehicle ecosystem boosting startup Monta has chosen Barcelona to set up its European hub, and expects to have a staff of 80 people in the Catalan capital next year. The company, founded in 2020, is an operating platform that offers drivers, companies, cities, and electricity grids an integrated software solution valued at around 155 million euros. Monta explained in a statement that it chose Barcelona because it is a "benchmark location for the European technology sector" and a "unique" city to hire "high-level employees from different countries, whether in sales, customer service, or communication."

Currently, the Barcelona center already has 14 people working in customer service and the commercial area. "The goal is to become a major player in the development of the electric mobility ecosystem in Spain, particularly through our solutions for managing charging points and facilitating electric vehicle charging," explained Daniel Schwedhelm, Monta's Sales Director for Businesses in Spain, reports ACN.

The Danish startup offers an all-in-one electric vehicle charging platform that simplifies and streamlines the deployment, use, and management of EV charging infrastructure, as well as various services. Monta has over 180,000 users, 660 partners, and more than 130,000 commercial charging points. The platform also allows its users to access more than 500,000 public charging points, of which 4,900 are in Spain. The company is present in nine European countries: Denmark, France, Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands.

According to Monta's CEO and co-founder, Casper Rasmussen, there is still "enormous potential" in Spain for electric vehicle deployment. "We believe that lack of availability should not prevent people from creating a more sustainable and healthy planet. That's why our goal is to fully digitize the electric vehicle ecosystem to address the immediate challenges of the sector," Rasmussen added. Monta aims to become a "market leader" by 2025.

The platform simplifies and streamlines the deployment, use, and management of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, with services for businesses, charging point operators, or private drivers. Rasmussen explains that given the "obstacles" many drivers still face in finding charging stations, Monta wants to "solve this problem in the long term" by bringing together the various actors on a single platform available on iOS and Android.

With a staff of 200 employees and recently certified as a B-Corp, Monta has managed to raise 50 million euros in various funding rounds. The last one, closed at the end of 2022, valued the startup at 155 million euros. Its investors include Creandum, Pale Blue, Dot, byFounders, Headline, AENU, and Energize.
