The best concerts of December in Barcelona

Agreed that there are no international artists, but the city's venues remain very active: from Aitana to Mishima, from Raphael to Maria Jaume

Don't panic, but the optimism of having international concerts regularly seems to have decreased in recent weeks. News like the cancellation of Alanis Morissette, added to the worrying alarms arriving regarding the worsening of the pandemic, do not help to calm the situation, quite the opposite, but as of today, large venues continue to host shows with local musicians. Along these lines, we have recently seen a Palau Sant Jordi packed to the rafters to see David Bisbal and Robe Iniesta (Extremoduro). And the trend, for now, will remain identical: great national artists distributed among medium and large venues.

The month is officially inaugurated by Aitana, who plays this Saturday very close to her home, Sant Climent de Llobregat. Established as the young pop singer with the most national appeal, she will give the penultimate concert of her 11 Razones Tour at the Palau, a thirty-three-concert tour that has traveled all over Spain to promote her second album, Razones. Aitana Ocaña's Barcelona show, which was supposed to be the last but lost this status after recovering the postponed show at the Wizink in Madrid, has meant a long wait for her followers. Such was the eagerness that more than 7,000 tickets for the concert were sold in less than a day, which evidently arrives at its date completely sold out.

Continuing with the concerts in the Olympic pavilion, Raphael will be next to enter the scene. Nothing more and nothing less than celebrating sixty years of career of the singer from Linares. Thus, he will not skimp on the great hits achieved throughout such an extensive career:My Big Night, How I love you,To be in loveor the classic I am that one, with which Raphael performed at Eurovision in 1966 (it would be the first of his two appearances in the contest). A classic of Spanish song facing one of his most special tours at 78 years old. For his part, the melodic pop singerBeretwill be one of those in charge of closing 2021, as his turn at the Palau Sant Jordi will arrive next December 22. The Sevillian, one of the great recent phenomena of Spanish radio, released his last album a couple of years ago, but has just released a new song, the romantic I will never understand.

Leaving aside the most crowded venues, the halls continue to be the vital lung of the city's music. In what is probably the most emblematic of all, Apolo, there isn't a weekend that doesn't program some of the best DJs and concerts for all audiences. This December, we highlight two from its great offer: Mishima, on December 22 and 23, and Los Enemigos, on the 30th. The combo led by David Carabén usually performs a Christmas concert every year; historically it took place at Heliogábal, but some time ago it moved to the Paral·lel venue. With not much to present ---a new album is expected next year--- they will play their usual hits, which are many: Catalan pop of the last 20 years cannot be understood without their delicate songs with exquisite references. Already ending the month, those in charge of closing the concerts of this strange year will be Los Enemigos, who will finally be able to present their already distant Bestieza in a venue, published at the beginning of 2020 but without having been able to show it in its natural habitat, in the warmth of the club. Adult power pop with shine. Other dates marked in Sala Apolo: Maria Jaume and Lluís Cabot (December 22) and the historic skatalytics Potato (December 10 with Skaparàpid).

From Paral·lel to Poble Nou, visiting L'Auditori, which among its classical programming always has spaces for popular music. This December, local artist Pau Vallvé will close his La vida és ara tour with a double recital, on December 9 and 10, in the Sala Oriol Martorell. The TV personality Miki Nuñez will also be there, in his case, in Sala 1, making a stop on his Tour Iceberg. We finish this review very close to L'Auditori, visiting one of the temples of independent music in the city, Sala Vol on Sancho Dávila. Before the end of the year, they have very appealing concerts, with some of the most revealing and exciting groups of the national underground passing through their stage: Aliment (December 11), La Paloma (new band from Madrid, December 17) and the always appealing Zephyr Lake, on the 18th. In addition, the tireless Vàlius will close the year with their traditional karaoke. Looks good.
