The Association of Journalists of Economic Information of Catalonia (APIEC) begins a new stage with the aim of reactivating its activity after some years of lethargy and
with the challenge of expanding the number of members with the incorporation of young professionals who have joined the trade. The new APIEC will be led by
Eduardo Magallón, journalist in the Economy section of
La Vanguardia, and by
Maite Coca, journalist of
The New Barcelona Post, who will occupy the presidency and vice-presidency, respectively.
Dani Cordero, a journalist for El País, will be the new secretary. Magallón and Coca lead a renewed board of directors that was chosen this Monday in elections held at the headquarters of the College of Journalists of Catalonia in Barcelona. Founded in 1986, APIEC currently has 107 members and until now was chaired by Agustí Sala, a journalist for El Periódico de Catalunya, who will continue to be part of the board, which will now be made up of 15 members. The Relevo 2022 candidacy was the only one presented for the elections.
Accompanying Magallón, Coca and Cordero are some of the main economic journalists from Catalonia, as well as representatives from the communication agencies sector and the university. It is about Pilar Abril, from TV3; Leandro Lamor, of the EFE Agency; Agustí Sala, from El Periódico; José Orihuel, from Expansión; Estela López, from El Economista; Juan Carlos Valero, from ABC; Toni Fuentes, from Coche Global; Lalo Agustina, from La Vanguardia; Josep-Francesc Valls, from Pompeu Fabra University (UPF); Berta Roig, from the communication agency Kreab; Jordi Sacristán, from the Roman communication agency; and Sergi Saborit, director of The New Barcelona Post. The expansion of the APIEC membership census with young professionals who guarantee the generational change in the association's governing bodies is the first priority defined by the new board. In this sense, from now on, new registrations will be encouraged and a mechanism will be adopted so that "immediately, these new members can join an expanded board to manage APIEC." "Our goal,
as established by the association's statutes, is to renew 50% of the new board within two yearss and that's why we want to launch a campaign to attract young professionals who can immediately join APIEC as members and as new members of the board of directors, so that they get involved in the day-to-day life of the association," explained Eduardo Magallón after assuming the presidency.
In this term, APIEC intends to promote various activities to discuss economic issues and those related to the task of economic journalism, and will also resume training actions with key organizations for the sector such as the CNMC, the CNMV, the Bank of Spain, Idescat, INE, IESE or Tech City.
