The Universitat Abat Oliba CEU plans to open a new building on its Bellesguard Campus in Barcelona next academic year, which will allow it to increase the number of classrooms and work rooms for students. This is a project that will involve an investment of several million euros and consists of the construction of a six-story building, three of which will be underground and three above ground, with more than 5,000 square meters built.
This expansion will allow for the reorganization of the Bellesguard Campus, which will reform the main access area to make it wider and gain new landscaped spaces. The new building will feature an auditorium, classrooms with capacity for 400 students, work rooms, a vending area, a terrace, and workstations for university employees.
Construction began a few months ago and has required the excavation of a significant hole and the construction of the necessary foundation screens to accommodate the building's structure, which will begin to rise in March and is expected to be ready in September 2022.
Currently, the Bellesguard Campus of the Universitat Abat Oliba CEU consists of three structures: a main cloister-shaped one, which integrates the Aula Magna and the classroom blocks; and two auxiliary ones for staff offices. Between undergraduate, master's, postgraduate, and doctoral students, the student population is around 3,000 people. In the last two academic years, the university has experienced substantial growth in new student enrollment.
Belonging to the CEU educational group, the Universitat Abat Oliba has three faculties: Law and Political Science; Communication, Education and Humanities; and Psychology, in addition to an Institute of Health Sciences. It offers degrees, double degrees, master's and postgraduate degrees in the areas of Law; Business and Economics; Psychology; Education; and Communication.
