With a valuation of 69,600 million dollars, Uber is the most valuable US company financed with venture capital in the United States, according to the ranking prepared by the US firm PitchBook, specialized in software and financial information.
Uber, based in San Francisco and founded in 2009, is the company that has revolutionized the private transportation sector with its network of drivers in hundreds of cities around the world.
This company currently has an estimated value that is more than double that of the second company in this ranking: Airbnb. According to PitchBook's valuations, Airbnb, dedicated to offering accommodation to individuals in thousands of cities around the world, is worth 31,000 million dollars today.
The third company driven by venture capital with a higher valuation is WeWork. This company, founded in New York in 2010 and which today is a global network of workspaces in dozens of cities in different countries, is valued at 21,000 million dollars. In Spain, WeWork is currently present in Barcelona and Madrid.
In fourth place in the ranking is SpaceX, the aerospace transport company that was founded in 2002 by one of the most famous entrepreneurs in the world, Elon Musk, co-founder of companies such as Tesla Motors, PayPal or SolarCity. SpaceX has a valuation of 20,800 million dollars.
Some of the 20 most valuable US companies financed with venture capital are not as recognized brands as the top four in the ranking. Thus, fifth place is occupied by Palantir, a software company located in Silicon Valley specialized in big data analysis and which today has a market valuation of 20,500 million dollars, according to PitchBook.
In sixth place, a more well-known company reappears: the social network Pinterest. It is valued at 12,300 million dollars.
The biopharmaceutical company Samumed (12,000 million dollars), Uber's rival Lyft (11,700 million), the online business platform Stripe (9,200 million) and the biotechnology company Moderna (7,000 million) complete the top ten positions in this ranking. The following graph shows the 20 companies with the highest valuation according to PitchBook.
In the PitchBook ranking, Dropbox does not appear because it is in the process of becoming a publicly traded company. Three companies –Theranos, Outcome Health, and Zenefits– have also not been included. They had achieved valuations that would place them among the top 20, but due to various recent problems, PitchBook analysts consider it very unlikely that they have maintained that value.
