The Collider innovation program, created by the Mobile World Capital Barcelona foundation, has created a total of 15 startups in its four years of existence, 12 of which are still active and have managed to raise 4.9 million euros in funding throughout 2021.
The Collider's balance sheet, since its creation in 2017, includes the development of this dozen startups that have reached a market valuation of 17 million euros and have created 90 jobs, both direct and indirect, 30 of which were during the past year.
2021 also saw the creation of a new company: Ephion Health, a pioneer in the use of artificial intelligence to monitor the evolution of patients with diseases affecting mobility. Jointly promoted with the Eurecat technology center and the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, Ephion Health has already validated its technology with Duchenne muscular dystrophy patients.
Ephion Health joined the rest of the companies in The Collider's portfolio. These are Exheus, Pharmacelera, RheoDX, Mental XR, Allread, Deep Detection, GeoKinesia, SAALG Geomechanics, SmartTTower, and The Predictive Company.
Some of these companies will participate as projects that are transforming sectors such as HealthTech, CleanTech or agro, in the next edition of 4YFN Barcelona, the startup launch platform, which will be held in Barcelona from February 28 to March 3 within the framework of Mobile World Congress 2022.
The Collider program, which connects entrepreneurs and scientists to create cutting-edge technology spinoffs, aims to make visible the state's scientific potential and combine industry, scientific talent, and entrepreneurial talent in the creation of technological startups. "We dedicate at least six months to each project before creating a company," says Oscar Sala, director of The Collider. "It is a process of in-depth research and analysis of all aspects of the business model, from the technology itself to the team, including technology transfer agreements with universities, involving key experts in all our decisions," he adds.
The Collider has launched this year a new call for Call for Technologies 2022, for the selection of another 15 emerging projects that will be incubated this year with the support of the industry and that is aimed at researchers, postdocs, doctoral and master's students linked to university groups, research or technology centers that have authorization from the corresponding institution.
