5G technology is expected to revolutionize the way we communicate and interact with our mobile phones. But it will also mark a before and after for the economy, which will find in 5G a new ally to find innovative solutions for very diverse sectors, such as industry, urban mobility or health. Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) and Telefónica have once again joined forces, through the 5G Barcelona initiative and the Wayra innovation hub, to promote the 5G ScaleUp Program acceleration program, which will select four startups that use this technology.

For 17 weeks, entrepreneurs will receive virtual training from Wayra and 5G Barcelona mentors, in areas such as finance, sales, marketing, investment, branding, commercial or pitching. They will also receive support to access investors and networking spaces, and gain visibility within the 5G ecosystem. Entrepreneur and investor Jorge Blasco; the founder of Consejo Digital and Esade collaborator, Franc Carreras; the CEO of Swala Ventures and Esade collaborator, Katherine D'Amico; the director of Soluble Studio, Ismael Barros; the managing partner of Nekko Capital, Mercè Tell, and the CEO of Bolibol, Roland Umlauft, will be some of the mentors who will participate in this acceleration program.

The chosen emerging companies will also be able to access The Thinx 5G Barcelona laboratory, promoted by Telefónica and 5G Barcelona at Pier 01 of Barcelona Tech City. With access to state-of-the-art radio and specific 5G technologies, this space allows startups to analyze and test the operation of their products and the viability of their innovations. To be selected, companies will have to present validated solutions that can incorporate 5G technologies, and the market potential and scalability of the solution will also be valued. The call for applications is open until February 14.
