Innovation in ports will be debated again from Barcelona at Smart Ports: Piers of the Future, the event that Port de Barcelona organizes with six of the most important ports in the world to analyze the trends that the port sector is experiencing in its transition towards a more sustainable and digital model. The commitment to the blue economy and collaboration between port and city will be some of the main approaches that will be defended as a necessary solution to advance towards this new paradigm.

The event will celebrate its third edition on November 16 and 17, coinciding with the Smart City Expo World Congress. Although it will take place on the same days as the Fira de Barcelona exhibition on smart cities, Smart Ports will maintain the virtual format it premiered last year from its own set, hoping to recover face-to-face attendance and combine it with virtuality for 2022. It will participate in the Smart City through talks that will discuss smart ports.

In this edition, the ports of London (United Kingdom) and Gothenburg (Sweden) will be the guests and will explain their experiences in energy transition and multimodality, respectively. The experiences of these two infrastructures will join those of Port de Barcelona's partners in the organization of Smart Ports: Antwerp (Belgium), Busan (South Korea), Hamburg (Germany), Los Angeles (United States), Montreal (Canada) and Rotterdam (Netherlands).

The Port de Barcelona projects that will be presented at this meeting will be a geolocation solution based on 5G technology and artificial intelligence and a pilot to create an energy community in the Moll de Pescadors, the first to be done in a Spanish port. The port's intention is to extend "at all levels" this first test, details the president of the Barcelona institution, Damià Calvet.

Smart Ports expects to exceed 6,000 unique users in this new edition, after having achieved a total of 5,700 in the previous one. According to the Director of Innovation and Business Strategy, Emma Cobos, so far, it has already reached 2,000.
