Innovating in the initial phases of drug creation, also covering its manufacturing and adaptation to regulations for validation. This is the proposal of Sincromed, a pharmaceutical company that has just been launched by five female scientists with years of experience. Diana Gasset is in charge of leading the project, which is completed by a chemical engineer, two pharmacists, a biologist, and a biochemist. "The pharmaceutical sector is clearly feminine, but people are surprised that we are all women," says Gasset.
Sincromed is a spin-off of Sincrofarm, a company where Gasset was a partner. This is where a good part of the knowledge contributed by Sincromed comes from. Founded in 1990, Sincrofarm has been dedicated to manufacturing medicines and food supplements for other companies.
Over the years, the company has gained experience, attending to new customer requests, who no longer wanted them to just manufacture the products but also to take charge of their galenic development, that is, the formula that defines them, looking for new ways to do it.
Seeing that more and more companies were asking them to innovate in formula design, ingredient selection, or the elaboration of initial studies, Gasset decided to create Sincromed, with an initial investment of 130,000 euros and located in the same offices as Sincrofarm, in Cornellà de Llobregat. Since its inception, the spin-off is registering results far superior to the objectives it had set for the first months, working on more than ten projects. "My forecasts were conservative and have been clearly exceeded," remarks Gasset, without specifying the figures. For now, they are already expanding the team to respond to the detected demand.
For the CEO, the professionalism of the team and their knowledge of the sector explain the reception they have had. "Bad advice can cause many problems and complicate market entry," she reasons.
