The Swiss company Siegfried, specialized in the manufacture of active ingredients and finished products for the pharmaceutical sector, has invested 15 million euros in the two plants it has in Catalonia, located in Barberà del Vallès and El Masnou, and which it acquired in 2021 from the multinational Novartis. This investment has been allocated to the installation of a new Pharmaceutical Product Development Center that will serve companies in the sector located all over the world.

The new spaces are distributed between the two factories and have cutting-edge laboratories and flexible development capabilities to become "the group's global center for pharmaceutical product research and development", which has a presence in Switzerland, Germany, Spain, France, Malta, the United States and China. These custom product development facilities total an area of 1,500 square meters and will employ more than 40 "highly qualified specialists, who will collaborate with the company's clients to transfer innovations to an industrial scale," explains the Swiss company, headquartered in Zofingen.

"The new Development Center in Barcelona strengthens our global network and enhances our growth. This investment reinforces the commitment to provide our clients with the most advanced skills and capabilities to develop and produce pharmaceutical products. This is an important step forward for our vision of being CDMO leaders in our sector and becoming the best ally for the pharmaceutical industry," highlighted Siegfried's CEO, Wolfgang Wienand. CDMO, in English terminology, refers to companies within the pharmaceutical sector that work for other companies through a manufacturing contract.

According to Siegfried, the new center "will be key in providing the pharmaceutical industry with services ranging from product development to commercial production." It will also dedicate part of its facilities to manufacturing high-potency oral products, which will allow Siegfried to offer more services in this market segment.

The group invoiced 1,229 million Swiss francs (1,254 million euros) in 2022 and has more than 3,600 people working in its eleven plants distributed across three continents. Siegfried is dedicated to both the manufacturing and production of active ingredients and finished products (tablets, capsules, sterile vials, bottles, cartridges, and ointments), as well as development services for the pharmaceutical industry.
