A bad photo from a party a decade ago, an unfortunate teenage video, compromising or even false information that harms one's image. The internet can host content that damages business and personal reputation, and RepScan works precisely to eliminate it. To boost its work and new tools, the startup has just closed a 3.5 million euro funding round, with which the Barcelona-based company wants to accelerate its international expansion and consolidate its position as a leader in the legal removal of harmful content on the internet and the protection of online reputation.
"Online reputation is everything in this digital world, it's the new oil," defends Josep Coll, president and co-founder of the company. "The internet is already a huge content dump; more content is published every day and 4% infringe some right," warns Coll, who launched RepScan after also coming from the tech startup Red Points. Faced with this reality, RepScan allows detecting and eliminating harmful content on the internet, which "helps individuals and companies to legally monitor and clean up their own reputation."
The round has closed with the participation of investors such as Bonsai Partners, Swanlaap Venture Factory, Pinama Capital 23 and Esade Ban, who have joined the project. "They are good travel companions to achieve one goal: when a person or company has harmful content online, they should think of RepScan," highlighted Coll, at the helm of a company that has clients such as Jordi Évole, Santiago Segura, Real Betis or the Catalan Football Federation.
In addition, the final stretch of the round has been managed through the investment platform Startupxlore, which has allowed opening the door to private investors, starting from 500 euros. From the investment platform, José Luis de Cachavera praised RepScan for closing the round "in a year in which capital has been extraordinarily selective."
In parallel, the Catalan startup has developed new tools to shield reputation focused on business leaders. Coinciding with the closing of the round, it has launched RepScan Care, a premium solution specifically aimed at CEOs, general managers, senior executives and boards of directors, for their protection against reputational attacks, defamation and exposure of personal data.
Thus, this new product is presented as an elite solution to prevent an online crisis from dragging down the reputation not only of companies, but also of their management personnel, with advanced algorithms for detecting sensitive content and fake news, specialized legal assistance, and the elimination of harmful content. This content will be added to the more than 100,000 removals that RepScan has carried out in more than 68 countries. With a 96% success rate, the company aims to act as a "digital shield against disinformation, harassment, defamation," and to do so as an international benchmark in the defense of online reputation.
