Renfe will open a new operations management center at Barcelona-Sants station for the AVE-Long Distance and Avant lines that run in Catalonia. The operations of this unit will carry out, in real time, a monitoring of the daily schedule and will emphasize the control and resolution of possible incidents affecting the lines and their travelers.

The project contemplates an investment of 1.03 million euros and a construction period of eight months. The new facilities will have an area of 146 square meters, which will allow to improve coordination between operational and customer service teams, as reported by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda.

The new center will join the two that Renfe already has in full operation in Catalonia, specifically in Barcelona, at Estació de França and El Clot, destined in this case to services linked to the Rodalies railway lines.

"The responsibility in the Barcelona management center for long-distance and high-speed lines will support the operation of convoys to resolve possible incidents that travelers may have and, in case of alterations affecting the good evolution of the journey, seek alternatives for passengers, such as accommodation or other alternative means of transport so that they arrive at their destination in the fastest and most comfortable way," in the words of Fernando Llamas, Head of Customer Service and Terminal of Barcelona Sants Station.

The head of Renfe has specified that the increase in capacity for better coordination between operational teams will entail the hiring of more staff who will join the Sants center; although he has not specified the number of jobs.
