The FIC-CAT, the only festival devoted exclusively to Catalan-language cinema, is entering a new chapter with Raül Riera as its new director. Held annually in Roda de Berà since 2008, the festival showcases feature films, short films, documentaries, music videos and other audiovisual productions made in Catalan, with a programme that combines competition with screenings, activities and industry events. Its latest edition, held from June 5 to 13, was the festival’s 18th and set a new participation record, with 335 entries and a strong public turnout. From the outset, the festival has had an international outlook, attracting Catalan-language productions from different territories.
After five years under the leadership of Cris Gambín and Toni Pinel, the festival is now entering a new phase at a time of consolidation. The change also comes with a new co-organisation model, giving Roda de Berà City Council a more active role in ensuring the festival’s continuity. Riera takes over with an in-depth knowledge of the festival. He holds a degree in Multimedia Communication and joined the FIC-CAT in 2015 as a graphic design collaborator. Since 2017, he has been a member of the organising committee. Alongside his work at the festival, Riera is a communications officer at Roda de Berà City Council, where he has also been involved in the town’s communications and outreach.
