Pummba, the 'startup' that sends sofas in just 24 hours

The company prepares packages with the furniture rolled up and vacuum-packed in a small box, to then easily assemble it at home

Toni Estellé is a serial entrepreneur. Before breaking into the sofa sector with Pummba, he opted to sell vacuum-packed mattresses in 2017 through Marmota, an entirely online startup dedicated to sending all orders in just 24 hours. His formula worked and, just over a year ago, the Spanish manufacturer of rest items Flex acquired the brand.

The concept developed by Estellé changed the standards of e-commerce although, he says, mattresses were not the product he had wanted to start entrepreneurial ventures with. "I have always conceived this project in my mind with sofas before mattresses, but it was very risky because I was sure that the market would not understand it and did not seem to be ready for its arrival," says the entrepreneur from Ebro.

Almost a decade after first thinking about that project, Estellé can finally boast of having made it a reality. In June 2022, his parent company Ecommerce AddVentures launched the Pummba brand, a name that aims to imitate the sound produced when a person sits on the sofa. The new company starts from the same premise as Marmota: sofas rolled up inside small boxes, which can be easily loaded into an elevator. Assembly is easy and no tools are needed, following the path initiated by Ikea. In Pummba, furthermore, products arrive just 24 hours after purchase and come with a 100-day trial period. Depending on the number of modules, the price of the items ranges between 500 euros and 2,000 euros, an amount that increases if armrests or a puff are required.

Estellé has developed this new startup together with Josep Sánchez and Ana Andrés at a critical moment for the furniture sector, due to the global supply crisis that has caused shipping delays of up to six months in the best of cases. This situation works in favor of the Catalan company with its almost instant deliveries, which has good future prospects, given that it expects to reach a turnover of 1.5 million euros by the end of this year and expand throughout Europe in the next three months.

With Ecommerce AddVentures, Estellé aims to "help traditional sectors provide an effective response to a rapidly changing society, considering that they do not have sufficient tools to adapt at the opportune moment." The entrepreneur believes that his proposal "is aligned with a new way of thinking" that is consolidating and that does not reconcile with a more conservative view of business.

The co-founder of Pummba is not only currently immersed in growing the 24-hour sofa delivery service. In July, he also launched Eleva, a brand of electronic office desks, which can be raised to the height the user desires. This functionality, he points out, should serve to help prevent musculoskeletal disorders and sedentary lifestyles during working hours.
