The Professor of Financial Economics and Accounting Oriol Amat has been elected new rector of the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) after obtaining 65% of favorable votes regarding the total votes cast. Amat, who was the only candidate, replaces Jaume Casals, Professor of Philosophy, who has been rector for the last 8 years.
Despite there being only one candidate, the overall participation recorded has risen to 18.28%, which represents an increase of 11 points compared to the last elections with a single candidate. The sector with the highest participation was that of tenured professors, with more than 72%, while the sector with the lowest participation was that of master's and doctoral students, with 4.86%.
By sectors of the university community, Oriol Amat has obtained majority support in all of them, especially highlighting the faculty, with a range of between 63 and 81%, and the administration and services staff, with 77.21%. Students, both undergraduate and master's and doctoral, have also voted overwhelmingly for the candidate, with percentages between 55 and 58%.
Amat has been a professor at UPF since 2001 and a lecturer at the center since 1992. He is also dean of the Col·legi d'Economistes and of the UPF Barcelona School of Management, the university's business school that he will now lead.
