One of the things that surprised me when I returned from Madrid was the number of bars in Barcelona that have natural wines. In Madrid, you only find them in very specialized places and it is not common for them to be offered to you. On the other hand, to my surprise, in Barcelona, in bars of all kinds ---it doesn't have to be the classic hipster--- you can find them.
For those who wonder what the difference is between them ---without me being an expert---, natural wines come from vineyards that do not use herbicides or pesticides and the harvest is natural. In addition, no chemical additives are used in the winery and, practically, no sulfites are added. This generates a much less artificial taste and the taste of the grape is much more noticeable. And, why deny it, it also generates less hangover the next day.
Barcelona is one of the reference cities in Spain and Europe for those looking for this type of wines. It has the international natural wine fair Vella Terra, high-quality shops and bars/restaurants known everywhere, of all price ranges. If you want to try them, the neighborhoods where you will find them most are El Born, Eixample and Gràcia. The most recognized ones that appear in all guides are Gresca, L'ànima del vi, Garage Bar, Monocromo or Vis en Vis, among many others. Outside the guides, one of my favorites is Bocanariz, in the Gràcia neighborhood, where an ideal climax is generated for a date. To go to dinner with your friends, I recommend La Graciosa (Gràcia), where they have a good wine list with a very correct price. If you fancy a bit more atmosphere, you will always have Bar Salvatge (Gràcia) or Perros Mediterráneos (San Antoni). If what you want is to drink it at home, go to the LaNatural store (Gràcia), where you will find all kinds of natural wines, with very personalized advice.
Now that we have managed to make natural wines increasingly mainstream, when will alcohol-free wines be available in the bars of our city?
