After the success of its Instagram giveaway in which it gave away plants for life, the online store Monstera is going physical this weekend with the opening of a pop-up store where it will sell more than 50 varieties of indoor plants at reduced prices, ranging between five and fifteen euros on average, cheaper than on the website. Among them, there will be the brand's best-selling references, such as Monstera deliciosa, Maranta leuconeura, and Plectranthus verticillatus, but also more unique ones, such as Syngonium Confetti, Alocasia Pink Dragon, and Alocasia Black Velvet, which will have higher prices.
This Barcelona-based startup is committed to creating ephemeral stores twice a year, both in the Catalan capital and in Madrid. With an investment of about 15,000 euros, the company does so with the aim that customers can see the plants they want to buy live, as well as to make itself known to new buyers, explains the founder and CEO of Monstera, Sergi Villaubí. This weekend's is already the fourth time they have done it. In previous editions, queues of up to two hours have been organized to access the establishment.
Monstera estimates that about 2,000 people will pass through the store, which is located at Maria Aguiló 28 street. The pop-up store is open this Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., while on Saturday and Sunday it will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The emerging company operates from Montgat, in a warehouse they rented a few days before the March 2020 lockdown. They had started testing their website in January of that same year, but it wasn't until May when they officially started selling indoor plants online, after the halt caused by the first wave. It has a staff of ten people and expects to bill more than one million euros this year, tripling the results of 2020, partly thanks to the popularity they gained by giving away plants for life to two lucky winners.
