The merger of Orange and Masmovil has resulted in MasOrange, the new leading operator in the state market in terms of customer numbers. Shortly after formalizing the joint-venture, the company has announced that its investment in Barcelona will increase over the next three years to 130 million euros, which will be allocated to expanding and optimizing its telecommunications infrastructures and developing new services.
Thus, Barcelona is positioned as a strategic territory for the new company, which has accumulated an investment of 350 million euros in the city, mainly destined for the development of telecommunications infrastructures. The growing investment forecast is in line with the operator's commitment to employment and the socioeconomic development of the city.
This was confirmed during a visit to Barcelona by MasOrange's CEO, Meinrad Spenger, and the General Director of Regulation, Public Affairs, and Sustainability, Luz Usamentiag. During their visit to the city, they conveyed their investment and socioeconomic development plans to the mayor, Jaume Collboni, and met with employees to explain the objectives and strategy of the newly created operator.
Precisely in reference to employment, the company generates nearly 300 direct jobs and 1,800 indirect jobs derived from its commercial activity in 42 points of sale and the deployment of its networks. Through these networks, MasOrange has 850,000 homes and businesses connected with fiber optics in the Catalan capital.
Through its different brands, the company provides service in Barcelona to 1.5 million customer lines, both individuals and businesses, of which nearly 1.2 million are mobile, and 300,000 are fixed broadband. In the entire province of Barcelona, the new company reaches 4.2 million lines, with 3.2 million mobile and more than one million broadband, with customers including public administrations and large companies.
After the merger, MasOrange has become the leading operator in Spain in terms of customer numbers, and one of the 20 largest companies at the state level by revenue volume, with more than 7.4 billion euros. With a valuation above 18.6 billion, the new operator looks to Barcelona as a strategic territory for its growth.
