I am not very clear about what this word represents. Because you know that words mean and represent. The meaning is what the dictionary says about them, that is, what is universally agreed upon as meaning. In this case, it is, curiously, a feminine word that means "set of attributes, values, behaviors, and conducts that are characteristic of man in a given society."
However, the representation of this word is different depending on where it is being analyzed, lived, felt, and depending on who explains it. The representation is linked to the connotations it has in that environment, in that society, and in that context. Masculinities is a feminine plural that is in vogue from where what is masculine and, by extension, being a man, is redefined and rethought.
For Generation Z (young people aged 13 to 24), the concept doesn't even exist, because for this group everything is more fluid, organic, undefined, and unclassifiable... for millennials (25 to 40), Generation X (41 to 55), and boomers there are two trends: one goes along the lines of unburdening the masculine of rigidity, authority, and hardness and loading it with flexibility, vulnerability, emotion, and empathy and, at the other extreme, there are those who laugh at all this and understand nothing.
But, for those over 35, I think it makes sense to rethink the meaning and its representation. Just as when I write and talk about women's behavior in consumption, about stereotypes and feminism, I want women to speak and not men from their paternalism. When talking about masculinities, it is men who should speak. To give voice, to opine, and to challenge. It is you, men, who have experience of how you feel, of how the concept is being redefined, and of how what was once celebrated as masculine is now criticized for exactly the same thing.
Feminism is so integrated and pervasive in society that, at its core, it questions the role of men and masculinity. Not without reason, obviously. But, precisely because of this, when being challenged, questioned, and accused, it is necessary that you say what you think and how you understand this evolution of the concept of masculinity and the re-signification of feminism.
In this new version of masculinity, I want to think that vulnerability and empathy are included, also doubt and error and laughter and weakness. That fragility with all its ten letters be included. That the masculine be endowed with this humanity, which relaxes all of us. I don't think what has historically been associated with the masculine is bad; what is proven, and I think is bad, is that the representation of the masculine does not open up a little more to kinder values. And thus unlearn what has been learned.
Feminism is so integrated and pervasive in society that, at its core, the role of men and masculinity is questioned.Boys, lads, young people, men, adults, grandfathers, and elderly males should talk, debate, express opinions, and articulate how they rethink masculinity, how they feel most identified. At what point do you imagine what is associated with the masculine, with man, is today.
Thus, only with your opinion, we are going to redefine and re-signify the masculine, and with that, rethink feminism.
