The XX edition of the study «Navegantes en la red», presented this week by the AIMC (Association for Media Research), offers a broad portrait of Spanish Internet users and their behavior online.
Among the numerous data offered in the report, at The New Barcelona Post we have focused on two lists: that of the main activities carried out on the Internet by users in general, on any platform, and the main uses of the network when browsing from a mobile phone.
In the first case, the activity most mentioned by users in the 15,200 surveys conducted during the months of October, November, and December 2017 is reading news, mentioned by 84.6% of users.
Watching videos appears in second place (81.3% of users), while consulting maps is the third most frequent activity (72.1%). Checking the weather, listening to music, or watching movies or series are other frequent activities of Spanish internet users. The following graph shows the complete list:
In the more specific case of Internet use from mobile, the most frequently cited activity is the use of email (84.6%), ahead of instant messaging (79.2%) or general browsing (75.56%) and the use of social networks (71%). News consultation appears in fifth place (65.9%).
The mobile phone is, in fact, the most used device to connect to the internet in Spain (92.1% of internet users), followed by the laptop (77.5%), the desktop computer (67.4%), and the tablet (58.2%). The television is already used by 33.3% of Spanish internet users to connect to the web.
The mobile phone is also the most mentioned device when Spanish users are asked what their main way of accessing the web is: 37% mention the mobile phone, ahead of the desktop computer (30.6%), the laptop (26.6%), and the tablet (5.3%). The mobile phone increases by 13.6 points as the main access device compared to the year 2014, while the desktop PC drops by 7.8 points, and the laptop falls by 4.7 points.
