A young man obsessed with his girlfriend stars in Antonio Soler's new novel, Yo que fui un perro (Galaxia Gutenberg, 2023). The author himself will analyze the work in a new session of the Literary Cafes at CASA SEAT next Tuesday, October 24, in a meeting with writer and literary critic Jorge Carrión. Together they will share with the public impressions about his new book, which addresses the power of jealousy and the attempt to impose one's own vision on others.
Antonio Soler, born in Malaga in 1956, is an award-winning writer, as well as a television screenwriter and press collaborator. He is the author of works such as El camino de los ingleses, Sur, Sacramento, Las bailarinas muertas and El sueño del caimán, among many others by this prolific writer.
Yo que fui un perro disentangles the protagonist's mental logics. In the manner of a diary of a young medical student, the story focuses on his relationship with his girlfriend. It addresses how he watches and analyzes her from a distance from his house, from which he can see the building where the girl resides.
Through this diary, Antonio Soler dissects the functioning of the psyche of a manipulator who evolves towards the germ of an abuser. He explains the way in which the protagonist attributes rights to himself based on his own criteria, falsely dressing it in universal values, which will be debated at CASA SEAT.
